Famile Recipe – Meltaways

June 3, 2010 at 3:37 pm (cooking) ()

Typed out EXACTLY as my grandmother wrote it…. so please excuse any non-sensical instructions or spelling errors. Under her version I’ve added some notes…

Recipe for: Melt Aways
From the kitchen of: Jean

2 sticks margarine
1/4-1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teas salt
2 teas vanilla
2 cup sifted flour
1-2cup chopped nuts

Mix margarine + sugar until fluffy. Add rest of ingredients. Blend + chill. Form into small balls or crescents. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 12-15 minutes in 350• oven until light brown. Roll in sifted powder sugar while still warm.

NOTES:
I am sure that you can use butter over margarine. I know I would…
The sugar varies because, honestly, it needs to be “fluffy”. I think she means to pretty much cream it.
As for the nuts… walnuts or pecans. 🙂 Try them both and see which you prefer!!
